A Mobicon Straddle-Carrier was purchased by our company in early 1998. After initially working in one of our Brisbane premises, it was transported
to our Queensland Magnesium operations in Rockhampton. There it handles up to 50 containers per day.
The environment at Queensland Magnesium is dusty and hot and the yard surface is often uneven and soft. Despite these harsh conditions, the Mobicon
has had almost no unplanned downtime, which is a credit to the design and the reliability of the components.
The after sales service of Mobicon Systems has been excellent and Tom Schults, the Manager, was always available when assistance was required.
I must say we had some reservations regarding the purchasing of this Mobicon unit. FH had the first unit and while the concept was right we were
concerned with durability. All our initial concerns proved to be incorrect and the Mobicon has proved what great ingenuity we have in Australia. FH congratulates Tom Schults for his great efforts and say that it has
been a pleasure to be involved with his equipment and Tom.
This equipment has let us pass on to our client major costs benefits in handling their export containers and servicing new markets in a competitive
overseas environment.
On a safety note the Mobicon offers superior safety around the Queensland Magnesia plant. The driver can see clearly his operating areas and this
negates the need to travel with the container 3 metres in the air as the operator of a forklift would need to, or drive in reverse.
The other feature of the Mobicon is the weight distribution on the yard surface. The Mobicons lower pressures have saved immense costs on pavements.
In all a great piece of equipment to meet the needs of our expanding container business.
