The Mobicon Straddle-Carrier in our Acacia ridge depot has been in operation since June 1999.

PERFORMANCE
The unit has performed exceptionally well and has exceeded our expectations. It has been very reliable, with a total downtime for unplanned repairs not exceeding five (5) hours. The Mobicon handles approximately between 30 & 40 containers per day, consisting of 20’, 40’ and 48’ containers and curtain sided.

EFFICIENCIES
Previously full containers were left on trailers and used loading docks to unpack them. Now the Mobicon places the containers inside our warehouse on the ground, close to where the product needs to be stored. This enabled us to reduce the number of trailers in our fleet and our products are handled less frequently and much more efficiently, hence increasing productivity.

BENEFITS
The main benefits of using the Mobicon in our operations are :

• Faster turnaround time of the delivering semi trailer combination
• Trailers are made obsolete
• Less time and forklifts needed to unpack / pack containers
• Less freight damage due to less handling
• Less use of our yard prime mover

The Mobicon has achieved major efficiencies and cost reductions in our operations and we are impressed with its operational performance and its reliability.
