Introduction

When Defence Units are on the move, containers need to be loaded on and off vehicles in the field.  This requires a container loader to travel fast to the place of operation.  Preferably, the container handler travels with the same convoy as the containers.

The Problem

Heavy container handlers such as Reach Stackers and Container Forklift Trucks are not easy to transport due to their weight and size.  Special vehicles are needed to transport these machines.  A Container Reach Stacker will just fit in a C17, and weighs around 55,000 kg (120,000 Pound).

If a C17 is used, the problem arises how to get the container handler from the airport to the place of operation.  It requires a special heavy transport vehicle that may not be available on short notice.  Getting container handlers fast to the place of operation is a costly and complicated exercise.

The Solution

Mobicon Systems is capable of fabricating a container handler that is light and small and that can be transported with ease all over the world with standard vehicles and smaller planes.  A Mobicon only weighs 15,000 kg (33,000 Pound) which is only 15% of the weight of a Reach Stacker or Container Forklift.  The top beam will be retractable, making this Mobicon not wider than a road truck.  We are also working on the development of a retractable Mobicon Straddle Carrier that can drive itself into and out of a 20’ container.

The Benefits

The Rapid Deployment Mobicon will fit on a standard trailer (chassis) and weighs only about one quarter of a Reach Stacker.  No special road vehicles are required to transport the Rapid Deployment Mobicon.  This Mobicon can be adjusted to fit in the smaller C130 planes.
